OVERVIEW
Artifacts are a new system brought to the game on November 1st, 2017. These are items that will increase your Stats and effectiveness in combat by giving you special Buffs at certain Ranks. These Artifacts level up with the Player by using new experience (XP) items called Nth Metal. They come in various types and the amount of XP differs between their Rarity.
Also used in leveling your Artifacts are items called Catalysts. Catalysts drop from the last boss in specific On-Duty Instances. The tooltip in game details which instance drops which Catalysts. Every 20 Ranks requires specific Catalysts in order to "Breakthrough" to get to the next Rank. The Ranks to Breakthrough are 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140, and 160.
In this guide you'll find all the information you need on how to acquire Artifacts, the different type of XP items, information on the Artifacts themselves, and more.
UPDATE - August 15th, 2018
Game Update 86 brought changes to the Artifact Costs from John Constantine detailed in his section below and introduced a 3rd Artifact Slot.

In case you leave or warp from any of the areas to your Base, headquarters, etc, you can continue the missions by warping to the Area you stopped at from the Events Tab on the On Duty Menu.
Artifacts
Intro Message from John Constantine: Hello there, mate. How've ya been? Alright alright, I'll cut the chumminess. i know we don't have much history together. But together... we could MAKE history. And speaking of history, I'm in the business of collecting things. Old things. New things. Sometimes blue things. But most importantly, things with power. Ahh... That got your attention. Good. Meet me at this secret location and I'll give you the details of the little arrangement.

MILESTONES
In order to progress through the Ranks of your Artifacts, you have to do a breakthrough at each Milestone Rank which is every 20 Ranks. These Breakthroughs require Catalysts that are detailed later in the Guide. Each Breakthrough has a Percentage of Success and the higher the Rank, the Percentage of Success gets lower. Also with each higher Rank, the more XP is needed to reach the next Milestone.

CATALYSTS
Catalysts are used during the Breakthrough process. These items drop from the Last Boss of specific instances. Catalysts are on a Weekly Loot Lock so even if you run an Alert after its Daily Restart, you'll only get a Catalyst on that first run unless you spend Replay Badges to reset the instance in order to get more Catalysts. They drop in the different versions of content like Normal and Elite both drop them but they share the same loot lock so you won't get a chance to get 2 of the same Catalysts. Catalysts are Tradeable so you can find them in Trade Chat, the Broker, or asking a friend and/or leaguemate.
UPDATE - July 5th, 2018
In a Server Hotfix, Catalysts will no longer Drop in the instaces below. They are all now Sold by John Constantine in the Watchtower and Hall of Doom for 10x Marks of Victory Each. The instances below will no longer drop these Catalysts. This list is here as a reminder but it is now out of date.

Artifact XP Packs
Added to the game on August 23rd, 2018 are new items, the Artifact XP Packs. These packs only give XP to the Artifacts. You will still need the Catalysts in order to get through the Milestone breakthroughs.
The Reinforced Artifact XP pack gives 12,500 XP and the Perfected Artifact XP Pack gives 75,000 XP.
Items - Price (Non-Members / Members)
Reinforced Artifact XP Pack - 200 DBC/MP / 180 DBC/MP
Perfected Artifact XP Pack - 1000 DBC/MP / 900 DBC/MP
The best bang for your buck will be getting the Perfected Artifact XP Pack for 1000 Daybreak/Marketplace Cash (which is basically 10 bucks). The Perfected will save you 200 Daybreak/Marketplace Cash (2 bucks) because you'll need 1200 Daybreak/Marketplace Cash (12 bucks) to buy the Reinforced Artifact XP Pack just to reach 75k XP that is in the Perfected Artifact XP Pack.
Another reason to purchase it is because its your one and done way to get to Rank 80 easily. To get to Rank 80 you need 39920 XP which you could also buy x4 Reinforced Artifact XP Packs (800 Daybreak/Marketplace Cash) to get 50k XP and be done. Do note that you wont completely reach the Rank 100 Milestone with the Perfected Artifact XP Pack since that Rank requires 82499 XP and the Perfected only gives 75k XP.
